Peugeot and BMW form hybrid components joint-venture (Reuters)

French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen and Germany's BMW have extended their engine partnership by creating a joint venture to develop, purchase and produce powertrain components for hybrid vehicles.

The 50-50 joint-venture is expected to launch operations in the second quarter of 2011, pending regulatory approvals, and will enable both companies to standardize key components needed for hybrid power vehicles, they said on Wednesday.

BRUSSELS/ZARAGOZA, Spain (Reuters) - Canada's Magna on Monday inched closer to clinching its Opel buy with approval from Spanish plant workers as the clock ticks down to a November 3 board meeting at which GM is set to decide on the deal.Spain's Opel workers voted to accept Magna's plans for the carmaker, after tense negotiations with labor representatives. Their decision clears away one of the last obstacles standing in the way of a deal from the European point of view.

FRANKFURT.- Germany's SGL Carbon SE (SGL.XE) and luxury carmaker BMW AG (BMW.XE) said Thursday they plan to forge a joint venture to manufacture carbon fibers and fabrics for the auto industry, with an overall investment of EUR230 million. "We are acquiring pioneering future technologies and raw materials that we need for our megacity vehicle on competitive terms," BMW Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer said in a statement.
